Why counseling?
Whether you are facing a major life transition, personal conflict, or just feel stuck in your current situation, counseling can help you to heal and move forward. It can seem there is a never-ending cycle of shoulds that can leave you stuck in a state of shame and guilt. "I should be over this...I should treat my partner better...my children should be better behaved...I should be further in my life." Maybe you feel like you "should" be able to handle things on your own but the truth is, you don't have to. I value the uniqueness of each of my clients; focusing on their strengths to help them to navigate their struggles. My hope is that each of my clients can find their best self, work toward how they want things to be and leave the shoulds behind. <3 Melissa

In-office & Telehealth
The ability to attend counseling sessions via telehealth increased due to the COVID pandemic & restrictions around meeting in-person. Insurance providers responded by ensuring mental health benefits were at least equal to the benefits offered for in-person sessions. Although restrictions have been lifted, the benefits for both counselors & clients to continue meeting in the comfort of their home (or on their lunch break opposed to trying to fit a session in to their evening hours) has encouraged us to continue to offer this as an option. Additionally, having the ability to recruit outside of our geographical area allows us to hire a more diverse team of qualified clinicians. We currently have 5 counselors working out of our Algonquin office and the remaining members of our team are telehealth only. If you have not considered telehealth as an option, I encourage you to try it out and see if this may be a good fit for you.
